What students take away

A day on the course is a day of small risks, quick decisions, and encouragement from classmates. Here's what teachers tell us their students bring back.

Two students celebrating together after finishing a section of the course

Confidence

Students who arrive nervous finish the course having done something they didn't think they could. Teachers tell us this is the part they still hear about weeks later.

Student working through rope obstacles on the Adventure Course

Resilience

Obstacles rarely work on the first try. Students problem solve, fall back, and go again in a setting where struggling is normal and safe.

Teamwork

Classmates coach each other through sections. Students who don't usually lead often end up doing it.

Student balancing across a suspended bridge in the treetops

Physical literacy

Balance, grip, coordination, and spatial awareness, used continuously across a course rather than practiced in drills.

Group rates

Per student, plus tax. Minimum 15 participants on the same course.

Easy arrangements

Planning your visit

Your group has its own schedule

Your group host builds a plan around your group size and arrival time, and handles chaperone requirements, waivers, and check-in.

Certified guides run the activity

Element Guides demonstrate the course, fit equipment, and coach students throughout the visit. All course equipment is provided.

Plan on a half day

Exact timing depends on group size and how many courses you are splitting across. Your host will confirm a schedule when you book.

Every ability is included

Students choose their own routes and can stop at any point. Nobody is pushed to go higher than they want to.

Waivers and supervision

Every student needs a WildPlay waiver signed by a parent or guardian. Students 13 and under must have a responsible adult on site.

If it rains

Courses run in light rain. If conditions become unsafe we close, and your group is rescheduled or fully refunded.

Common questions

Before you book

How much does it cost?
Rates start at $22.99 per student on the Kids Course and $34.99 on the Classic Course, plus tax, with a minimum of 15 participants on the same course. Rates are lowest Monday to Thursday. Full pricing is in the table above.
What if a student is scared or gets stuck?
Most guests feel some fear, and our guides plan for it. Guides circulate beneath the course and coach students through tricky spots, and anyone can be brought back down to the ground at any point.
Some of our students are not tall enough for the Classic Course. What then?
The Classic Course requires students to be at least 4'8". Students under that height can take part on the Kids Course, which requires 3'9". Groups are often split across both courses, and your host will help you work out the numbers.
What should students wear?
Closed-toe shoes that are secured to the foot, so no flip-flops, sandals, or slides. Long hair tied back and jewelry left at home. Layers are a good idea, since it is cooler up in the trees than in the parking lot.
What if our numbers change?
Large changes need at least three days notice. Changes of one or two students need 24 hours. Your host will sort out the paperwork either way.
Is there anywhere to eat?
Snacks and drinks are available at Guest Services, and there are picnic tables on site. We recommend every student brings a water bottle.
Where are you located?
WildPlay Thacher is inside Thacher State Park in Voorheesville, about 20 minutes west of Albany.

Our students finished the course with more confidence than when they started. The staff were warm, professional, and extraordinarily patient.
