WildPlay’s Naked Bungy Sets New Records

March 3, 2010, Nanaimo, BC--It may have been Olympic inspiration, or perhaps it was spring’s early appearance but more people than ever before were inspired to “strip for Schizophrenia” at the fourth annual Naked Bungy Jump for Schizophrenia at WildPlay Nanaimo February 27 and 28. One hundred and ninety participants took the plunge over the two days while nearly 60 people attended as spectators.

And a record number of participants generated a record fundraising total. Just under $8,000 was raised at WildPlay Nanaimo through spectator admissions and jump fees, more than double the amount raised in 2009. Participants also raised over $2,000 in pledges, which will be matched by an anonymous donor. The British Columbia Schizophrenia Society’s Victoria Chapter will use the $12,000 donation for programs and services ranging from youth programs and raising awareness of mental illness to support services for those coping with mental illness and their families. “We are thrilled with the level of support that this event has generated. The financial results are fantastic but we also appreciate the growing number of people who participate every year,” says Hazel Meredith, Executive Director of BCSS Victoria. “It helps remind people that BCSS is here and that as a community when we come together we can make a difference.”
